Non-Pasted Wallpaper — Installation, Care & Removal

Updated 28 October 2026

Non-woven wallpaper installed by pasting the wall. Separate wallpaper adhesive is required and is not included.

Before you begin

Inspect every panel for damage, correct design, colour name, size and quantity before cutting or hanging. Lay panels out in their intended order and check the pattern across adjoining edges. If anything is wrong, stop and contact us with photographs.

Remove old wallpaper and loose coatings. Repair holes and uneven areas; remove dust, grease and other contamination. The wall must be sound, smooth, clean and completely dry, without mould or moisture problems. Cover dark patches with a suitable primer: lighter wallpaper may allow them to show through. Test the exact material on your wall before a full installation. Follow the paint and primer manufacturers’ curing instructions if they require longer than the minimum below.

Let newly painted walls cure for at least 30 days. A wallpaper primer such as PRO-977 Ultra Prime can help create a uniform surface and make future removal easier. Unroll the panels overnight, if space allows.

Tools and adhesive

Level, pencil, bucket, brush or roller, non-woven wallpaper paste, rounded flexible smoother, clean sponge, sharp utility knife and cutting guide. The supplied instructions recommend Roman PRO-880 Ultra Clear for the US, Henkel Metylan Direct for the EU, or an equivalent adhesive suitable for non-woven wallpaper. Follow its mixing, coverage and drying instructions.

Before working around electrical outlets or switches, isolate the circuit and verify it is off. Ask a qualified electrician if you are unsure. Use a stable ladder and keep a sharp blade and cutting guide under control.

Installation

  1. Check the panel order and pattern alignment. Mark a faint vertical guideline for the first panel. At an inside corner, the supplied guide allows roughly 1 inch (3 cm) through the corner; plan the starting position before applying paste.
  2. Apply an even coat of paste to the wall area for the first one or two panels. Do not paste the entire wall in advance: adhesive can dry before the panels are hung.
  3. Position the first panel from the top, using the guideline to keep it straight. Leave approximately ½ inch (1.3 cm) at the top and bottom for trimming.
  4. Smooth gently downwards and towards the edges with a flexible rounded tool. Avoid hard or sharp squeegees and excessive pressure.
  5. Hang the next panel edge-to-edge, matching the design without overlap. Continue in small pasted sections.
  6. Wipe away stray paste immediately with a clean damp sponge, before it dries. Keep adhesive off the printed face.
  7. Trim excess neatly and let the installation dry according to the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.

Care

Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth or sponge. Avoid abrasive tools, harsh cleaners, scrubbing and excessive water. Test any mild soapy water on an inconspicuous area first. Keep wallpaper away from persistent moisture and direct sunlight where possible.

Removal

With a suitable strippable adhesive, carefully lift a corner and peel the non-woven panel slowly away from the wall. Stop if the surface begins to lift and follow the adhesive manufacturer’s removal method. Primer, paste choice and wall condition determine how easily it strips.
