Peel & Stick Wallpaper — Installation, Care & Removal
Updated 28 October 2026
Self-adhesive wallpaper: peel back the liner and apply. No separate paste or water activation.
Before you begin
Inspect every panel for damage, correct design, colour name, size and quantity before cutting or hanging. Lay panels out in their intended order and check the pattern across adjoining edges. If anything is wrong, stop and contact us with photographs.
Remove old wallpaper and loose coatings. Repair holes and uneven areas; remove dust, grease and other contamination. The wall must be sound, smooth, clean and completely dry, without mould or moisture problems. Cover dark patches with a suitable primer: lighter wallpaper may allow them to show through. Test the exact material on your wall before a full installation. Follow the paint and primer manufacturers’ curing instructions if they require longer than the minimum below.
Allow freshly painted walls to cure for at least 2 weeks. Unroll the panels and leave them flat for at least one hour before hanging.
Tools
Level, pencil, measuring tape, scissors, sharp utility knife and a soft squeegee or flexible smoothing tool with rounded corners.
Before working around electrical outlets or switches, isolate the circuit and verify it is off. Ask a qualified electrician if you are unsure. Use a stable ladder and keep a sharp blade and cutting guide under control.
Installation
- Start at the left side of the wall. Draw a faint vertical plumb line with a level; do not rely on the ceiling or corner being straight.
- Peel back approximately 10 inches (25 cm) of liner at the top of the first panel. Keep the rest attached so the adhesive cannot fold onto itself.
- Align the panel with the guideline and apply from the top down, allowing excess for final trimming. Remove the liner gradually as you lower the panel.
- Smooth gently as you go, working trapped air towards the edges. Avoid stretching the material.
- Match the next panel to the pattern and join the edges neatly, without overlapping. Continue across the wall.
- Trim surplus at the ceiling, floor and openings using a sharp blade and guide.
- Give the whole surface a final gentle smoothing. Check and smooth again after about a week.
Care
Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth or sponge. Avoid abrasive tools, harsh cleaners, scrubbing and excessive water. Test any mild soapy water on an inconspicuous area first. Keep wallpaper away from persistent moisture and direct sunlight where possible.
Removal
Begin at an upper corner and peel very slowly and evenly, keeping the removed material close and parallel to the wall. Do not pull sharply or overstretch it. If the adhesive resists, warm a small area carefully with a hair dryer, moving it continuously, then continue slowly. Removal results depend on the paint, primer and condition of the wall; no universal damage-free result can be promised.
